Sozni Embroidered Pashmina Shawl — Artisan Signature

Description
If the plain-weave Pashmina is poetry, the Sozni embroidered shawl is an epic — patient, intricate, and deeply personal. The term Sozni (from the Persian for 'needle') describes a form of hand-embroidery practised exclusively in the Kashmir valley, in which a skilled craftsperson uses a slender hooked needle to draw continuous threads across the woven base, building up designs of extraordinary complexity without ever lifting the needle from the surface.
Each pattern in the Sozni tradition is first conceived by a naqash — a pattern master — who maps the design onto the shawl using a rice-paste grid. From that blueprint, the embroiderer works section by section, sometimes across months, translating the naqash's vision into thousands of individual stitches. A single full Sozni shawl can take between three and eighteen months to complete, depending on the intricacy of the pattern.
The Pashlo Artisan Signature Shawl carries this tradition forward. Woven from pure Changthangi Pashmina and then embroidered by hand in the classic Kashmiri manner, it represents the highest expression of the craft. The motifs — drawn from centuries of Kashmiri visual vocabulary, including the iconic buta (flowering bud), chinar leaf, and arabesque vine — are rendered in silk thread on a Pashmina ground, creating a subtle interplay of sheen and softness that changes with the light.
In the global luxury market, Sozni embroidered Pashminas are among the most prized textile objects available. Collectors in the UK, France, the Gulf, and Japan seek them out as heirlooms rather than purchases. When you choose this shawl, you are not buying a product — you are acquiring a piece of living cultural heritage, documented, certified, and made by hands whose knowledge spans generations.
